The programme funds Austrian SMEs that invest in measurable, strategic digitalization. A new laptop or generic software license will not qualify. What does qualify is digitalization that changes how your business operates — new customer interfaces, automated workflows, connected systems.

The Application Process: 5 Steps

Step 1: Define the Project First

Step 2: Register and Apply on aws.at

Submit your application through the AWS digital portal. The application requires your project description, cost estimates, company documentation, trade registration certificate, and financial statements from the last two years.

Step 3: Apply Before Project Start

This is the most common reason for rejection: starting the project before the application is submitted and approved. AWS is explicit — no retroactive funding. Submit 6–8 weeks before you plan to begin.

Step 4: Wait for Approval

Processing typically takes 2–4 weeks. Do not begin any billable project work during this period.

Step 5: Submit for Reimbursement

After project completion, submit all invoices and a completion report. This is a reimbursement model — you pay first, receive the grant afterward.
